SUMMARY:Main Street - Attracting New Entrepreneurs
DESCRIPTION:"Like established businesses opening a second location\, brand new businesses need technical assistance\, financing\, information about the district\, help in finding the right location\, and mentoring. Developing a support system for entrepreneurs is essential not only for the economic well being but also the social health of your town. More locally owned businesses\, more family businesses\, and more independent businesses will translate into more civic-minded businesses and reinforce your Main Street as a center of commerce\, culture\, and community life." - Trainer\, Todd Barman\, National Main Street Center's Main Street Story of the Week 2013\n\n \n\nAttracting entrepreneurs is about more than having juicy incentives\, glossy folders\, and cold-calling business owners. In the morning\, Todd Barman\, owner of Barman Development Strategies will guide us in how we can attract and support entrepreneurs in our Main Streets. How can we encourage more people to (successfully) start businesses using this entrepreneurial spirit. \n\n \n\nIn the afternoon\, learn about the recent Restaurant Challenge in Red Wing which directly resulted in two new restaurants opening. Two other restaurants are leasing space in their Main Street District as a result of the press around the Challenge. Hear from Jill Fanslow\, Program Coordinator at Red Wing Downtown Main Street how it was done\, lessons learned\, surprises\, and what effects the Challenge has had.
