Third Space: Artists on Main Street Training
The Winona Main Street Program is seeking artist submissions for “Third Space,” a series a programs that will be held outside on Third Street in Downtown Winona from May-October. Funding up to $1000 each for approximately 12 projects is available, but artists must attend one of two workshops to be held on April 23 or 24.
Third Space is Winona’s Artist on Main Street Grant, which is funded through the Bush Foundation with support from Springboard for the Arts. The goal of Third Space is to create free programming for the public to be held outside on Third Street between Center Street and Lafayette Street, to encourage outdoor activity downtown beyond the borders of Levee Park and to encourage foot traffic in the downtown business district. This artist-led placemaking initiative is meant to be varied, from passive programming to interactive events, and include a broad cross-section of Winona’s population from youth to seniors, and may be focused on one specific part of the population.
All artists are encouraged to apply, including people who don’t view themselves as “traditional” artists or enjoy art-based activities as a hobby. There will be approximately 12 grants at $1000 awarded, featuring smaller events as well as two to three signature events that will be awarded a slightly higher amount.
Anyone with interest in applying is required to attend a free training work shop, which will be offered twice.
