The short version: Up to $1000 each for up to one dozen individual art-based events is available for Winona Artists to create programming in Downtown Winona, but artists interesting in applying are required to attend this training session, or one of last year's training sessions.
The long version:The Winona Main Street Program is seeking artist submissions for “Third Space,” a series a installations or programming that will be held outside on Third Street in Downtown Winona from May-October. Funding up to $1000 each for approximately 12 projects is available, but artists must attend this workshop in order to be eligible to apply. Artists who attended last year's training are also welcome to apply, and do not need to attend this year's training if they are unable to.
Third Space is Winona’s Artist on Main Street Grant, which is funded through the Bush Foundation with support from Springboard for the Arts. This artist-led placemaking initiative is meant to be varied, from passive or interactive installations, exhibits, programming or events, and include a broad cross-section of Winona’s population from youth to seniors, and may be focused on one specific part of the population. All projects must take place outside, and must be in some of or all of the area from the Levee Park entrance at 2nd and Main Streets, down to Third Street and over to Lafayette Street.
All artists are encouraged to apply, including people who don’t view themselves as “traditional” artists or enjoy art-based activities as a hobby. There will be approximately 12 grants at $1000 awarded.
Anyone with interest in applying is required to attend this free training work shop.
